Choosing the right surfacing is essential when designing a playground or outdoor sports area. Safety, comfort, durability and compliance: every project requires a solution suited to its intended use and environment. Discover our surfacing solutions for your future projects:

Our Surfacing Solutions

Grass / Natural Turf

  • Advantages: aesthetic, natural, environmentally friendly
  • Limitations: suitable for critical fall heights of ≤ 1 m for playgrounds and ≤ 1.5 m for sports areas; requires maintenance; limited accessibility for people with reduced mobility (PRM).

PROLUGRASS Cellular Rubber Mat

  • Advantages: aesthetic, cost-effective, made from natural rubber, accessible for people with reduced mobility (PRM)
  • Limitations: aesthetic, cost-effective, made from natural rubber, accessible for people with reduced mobility (PRM)

Artificial Grass (with or without Underlay)

  • Advantages: cost-effective, durable, permeable, available in a variety of colours
  • Limitations: regular maintenance required; a high-quality, level base (aggregate or stabilised surface) is required.

Wood Chips / Gravel / Sand

  • Advantages: natural, durable, reusable, suitable for free fall heights of up to 3 m
  • Limitations: Requires an additional 10 cm in depth and width of the area; the specified aggregate grading must be respected.

Impact-Absorbing Safety Surfacing

  • Advantages: suitable for critical fall heights of up to 3 m, can be installed on concrete, asphalt or compacted aggregate, permeable, available in a variety of colours
  • Limitations: maintenance required; high-quality materials can have an impact on the overall budget.

Resin

  • Advantages: cost-effective, available in a variety of colours
  • Limitations: impermeable, non-impact absorbing, requires a clean, hard base (concrete or asphalt).

Additional Elements

P1 Concrete Kerb / Timber Log Edging

Several types of edging are available, in concrete or wood. The most commonly used are P1 concrete kerbs or timber logs (approximately 140 mm in diameter).

Timber / Metal Edging

Edging strips provide a more flexible solution than P1 kerbs or timber logs.

Concrete Edge Beam

A concrete edge beam is created by excavating a trench in the base (aggregate, asphalt, etc.) and filling it with concrete. It is approximately 10 cm wide and 8 cm deep and provides an anchoring surface around the perimeter of an impact-absorbing safety surface.

Concrete Footing / Foundation

A concrete footing or foundation consists of a volume of concrete poured into a hole made in the base, in order to secure a Type B play structure.

Geotextile

A geotextile is a permeable textile material, often synthetic, used in contact with the ground for reinforcement, separation, filtration, drainage or protection. It is generally used at the bottom of loose-fill surfacing areas to separate the loose material from the ground.

Chamfer / Bevel

A chamfer is created by forming a gentle slope to reduce the thickness of an impact-absorbing safety surface. It must be positioned outside the impact zone so as not to reduce the critical fall height (CFH).
